Today for the Flight of the week, we will get to know a city not well known by many. This mid-sized town, with a population of around 48,000, was once the host of two american presidents, one being the famous Thomas Jefferson. This city is situated close from Richmond,VA and not far from Washington D.C . There is a University considered to be in the Top Public Ivies of the U.S , and as well founded by Thomas Jefferson itself in 1819. This town is a typical american city, rich in Historical Buildings and a fervent of the American History in the 17th century. Can you guess which Eastern U.S city are we talking about ?

What might be this city you are asking, right? It is a real pleasure to present you this one today, cause you probably  didn’t guessed right ( or you are really good in U.S history!) It is now that I announce  you our lucky destination of the day; CHARLOTTESVILLE ,VIRGINIA with the one-way plane ticket at only 225$ .

A quiet view  from Court Square as the night falls , right in the middle of downtown Charlottesville.

This patriotic town seems to be quite something to visit historically speaking. There is a lot of museums and buildings that contains a big part of the American History. But that is all i seem to know for now on this town. So let’s explore this city a bit with those 4 activities we can accomplish in not more than a couple days.

Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello (931 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA)

Monticello was the primary domain of Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United-States. We will stop there  for a quick visit to discover this beautiful mountaintop house, hiding a small treasure of  U.S history. When visiting Monticello you can tour the  house that Jefferson designed and built for himself and his family, enjoy the beauty of its grounds and sweeping vistas, and explore the complexities of Jefferson’s enduring global legacy. We can enjoy a guided tour of the house, gardens, plantation and slavery for 20$. Pretty exciting, if you are a history geek like me!

The South Street Brewery ( 106 South Street East, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA) & Champion Brewery (324 6th St SE, Charlottesville, VA 22902, USA).

After visiting this piece of History, who wouldn’t be thirsty? Let’s stop by not 1 but 2 breweries based in Charlottesville,VA. Because, yes people, this town has so many breweries that we need at least to test 2 (or more, who knows?) . A little Brew-hoping won’t hurt us !

Let’s start by the oldest brewery in this city, being The South Street Brewery Founded in 1998, this is  Charlottesville’s oldest brewery and one of the cornerstones of the craft brewing movement in Virginia. We can enjoy there quite an expended beer offerings, such as the original South Street brew , and some of their new experimentation that brings us diversity and maturity. There is 12 rotating taps at the Brewery, including the experimental brews. Samplers and pints are available for tasting, and we can find those beers at some retailers in Virginia as well.

Secondly, after mixing history, fun and some good brew, we will stop at Champion Brewery , a more  innovative and modern one. This beer-drinking/tasting establishment is located at the foot of the Belmont Bridge, at the west end of Downtown Charlottesville. Champion Brewing Company offers constant rotation of specialty beers, from the traditionally-inspired to more experimental varieties. We will make sure to stop by to try the best ales that Champion Brewery has to offer!

Shenandoah National Park (Stonewall, Virginia, 22827,USA)

The Shenandoah National Park is one of the prettiest preserved nature park in the state of Virginia. The highest peak of the park is the Hawksbill Mountain at 1,235 m high. Only situated at 27 minutes from downtown Charlottesville, it would be the perfect outdoor activity to escape from the noise and crowd of the me to do on this trip. It is consider to be a 2 hour climb, moderate difficulty and 2.9 miles long.  The elevation of the climb is situated between 250 and 300m, so it won’t be the toughest one. Surely one magnificent view that i will gladly add to my collection.

A beautiful view at the top of the Hawksbill mountain, as the sun is ready to set upon the Blue Ridge mountains.

Our final destination would be as simple as a walk, in downtown Charlottesville. This town is considered to be a big college city, as bars and students are found at every corner. Plenty to do for an afternoon there, like shopping at the Downtown Mall on East Main Street, eating at the Commonwealth Restaurant & Skybar or just walking by many historical statues and buildings. We can even extend our walk to pass by the magnificent University Of Virginia, since it is just a few block West from the Main street. Perfect for the end of this trip, right? What would you do if you’d land in Charlottesville for one day ?
